Rabbi Irving Jacobs

Rabbi

Rabbi Irving Jacobs (z”l) was involved with the Neveh Shalom Community for over 25 years and regularly provided sermons and shiurim to the community as well as communal support. For over 50 years, Rabbi Jacobs lectured to academic and lay audiences. To his students, he always represented the essence of Modern Orthodoxy – the harmonisation of traditional texts and commentaries with the best of modern scholarship.

Rabbi Jacobs was the Principal of Jews College in London where he lectured in Bible, Midrash and Liturgy. His appreciation of the artistry of the Sages is reflected in his own remarkable ability to find a striking, colourful turn of phrase which both reveals and delights.

Rabbi Jacobs sadly passed away on 9 December 2020 (23 Kislev 5781) but the memory of his shiurim and his passion for Judaism will live on.  For recordings of some of Rabbi Jacobs key lectures please see www.rabbiirvingjacobs.org.
